How to make a bilty (lorry receipt)
A transport company (GTA) issues a bilty for every consignment. It is the receipt for the goods and the basis of the freight bill.
Step by step
- Your transport company once. Name, address, state, GSTIN, phone.
- The trip. From, to, vehicle, driver; the LR number is suggested (LR/26-27/0001 on).
- Consignor and consignee. Sender and receiver with address, state, GSTIN, phone.
- Packages. Number, packing, "said to contain", actual and charged weight; goods invoice number, value and e-way bill number.
- Freight. Fixed or per kg, tonne or package, plus loading, door delivery and other charges; Paid, To pay or To be billed, and who pays.
- GST option, save and print. Reverse charge (payer pays 5%) usually; forward 5% or 18% if you opted. Print four copies.
Worked example
40 bags, charged weight 2,000 kg at ₹3 per kg = ₹6,000 + loading ₹300 = ₹6,300, To pay, reverse charge: the consignee (a registered business) pays ₹6,300 to you and 5% GST (₹315) to the government.
Rules and dates
GTA services: 5% under reverse charge (paid by the registered recipient) or, if the GTA opted (Annexure V, by 31 March), forward charge at 5% without ITC or 12%/18% with ITC as notified.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- Charging GST on a reverse-charge bilty. Under reverse charge the bilty shows no tax; the payer pays it.
